Your starting point will lead you from fragrant grass prairies dotted with salt sage and chapparel, through arid high desert plains ringed by painted hills, to clear mountain lakes like Lake Adelaide and Shell Reservoir, into evergreen forests thousands of years old, through mountain meadows brilliant with wildflowers, and render you speechless at the base of the rugged alpine peaks jutting over 13000 feet above you.
